Vietnam 7D6N trip in RM800

chào bạn!
(hello)

Hmm where shall I begin...?

Alright. Let me start by talking about the first impression I got when I first arrived in Vietnam.

The airport was kinda empty. We found out why later on. That's because only people who just arrived by the airplane can be in the arrival hall. Those who were there to pick up or meet the just-arrived people had to gather outside the airport. I could still remember how it looked like to have so many people waiting outside the arrival hall - you feel as if you're a superstar. lol

The next we noticed after we hopped on the bus was the busy streets. It's strange because seemed like there were more motorcycles than other vehicles in Vietnam.

Actually, it could get kinda irritating at times ... because they would keep sounding their horns all the time. Especially in Ho Chi Minh city, you could hear horn sounds like almost every second during peak hours.

You should always watch out when you're crossing the road because even though the traffic light may turn red on their side, they would not necessarily stop. There are junctions where they don't even have traffic lights but they could still cross the road without running into each other. This was one of the things we found impressive.

***

We spent approximately RM800 during this trip (not including flight tickets). We exchanged some Vietnam Dong and the rest into US Dollar. We heard that some of the places accept USD that's why we did so. However, after that we realized that by paying with Vietnam Dong it actually costed less.

You may think that then it's better to change all the MYR to VND in Malaysia before departure. But no, the exchange rate was unexpectedly much higher in Vietnam.

(Beware to exchange your money at the airport. We almost got conned. Therefore, don't forget to count your money after the exchange. RM200 / 50USD can be exchanged to more than 1 million Vietnam Dong. Count cautiously because you might get confused with all the zeros at the back.)

Next thing you need to get is the SIM Card. The counter will just be next to the currency exchange.

We got our Mobifone SIM card at 160,000 VND and that's just for online data. If you need to call local numbers, you need to top up of at least 100,000 VND. (for this, you'll have to go to one of the counters outside the airport)

Of course, everytime when you pay, make sure to count it as well (yea, because of all the zeros).

***

Now, let me talk about the transport.

You hardly can find buses in the city. On the contrary, taxis are everywhere.

They are in different colours indicating that they belong to different companies. Normally, they charge by using the meter. However, make sure that you have the GPS on to ensure that the taxi driver is using the right way to your destination.

Unfortunately, we were conned once again.

The fare, as told by a local, was supposedly be 50,000 VND. However, we were nowhere near our destination when the meter hit that amount. Eventually, when it hit 80,000 VND, we anxiously stopped the driver. We insisted to get down the car and we walked to the destination.

If you happen to go to Dalat, use the RED taxi. They charge much lesser and the drivers are more honest (according to our experience).

Most of the time, we walked. There are two reasons - first, we need to save our cost. Second, we didn't wanna miss anything we could observe at the roadside. For instance, street food.

***

For accommodation wise, you can find really cheap ones in most of the places in Vietnam.

During these 7 days, we went to 3 different cities of Vietnam.

Ho Chi Minh. Mui Ne. Dalat.

4 of those nights we stayed in the 3 different hotels and guest houses. And it only costed us less than RM 100 per person!

For the other 2 nights, we spent the nights in the sleeping bus. Yes, you didn't read that wrong. It's a kind of bus where you lay down during the whole journey. To be honest, they are really conducive and hygienic.

You have to take off your shoes at the moment you step into the bus. They will also provide a bottle of water and a piece of wet tissue.

There are a few companies where you can book the sleeping / open buses. They are quite famous among the tourists. The Sinh Tourist (formerly well known as The Sinh Cafe) and FUTA Bus Lines. When you reach Ho Chi Minh you can always reach both of their companies at the Pham Ngu Lao street.

***

I will further explain about the 3 different cities and the delicious local street food in my next post.

Stay tuned.

Hong Kong 5D4N free-and-easy Itinerary

In year 2015, we had planned to visit Hong Kong in August 2016. We were indecisive between Hong Kong and Taiwan and eventually, we chose Hong Kong.

The flight was supposedly on 1st of August ... I can only say we were too unlucky. Taufan Mida arrived RIGHT ON THE DAY of our flight! Like out of so many days in August, it decided to visit Hong Kong on that day =.= So basically our flight was cancelled and it was like a stone falling down on us suddenly.

My mom was so lost at first as she didn't know what to do. I had no choice but to stay calm and try all the ways possible to make sure that the plan still go on. We were only given a few options: either we get our refunds or we postpone the flight without any additional cost. Of course, we chose the latter. Nonetheless, we got to catch the afternoon flight on the 2nd.

Anyway if you're planning to go to Hong Kong, there are some things that you have to take note and do some research on so that it will save you more time and reduce hassles during your journey.

First of all, it's the Octopus Card. You can get it at the airport (Terminal 2). If you find it hard to look for the counter, you can always get help from the Information Counter (that's what I did). For each Octopus Card, you have to pay HKD50 as deposit and then you can top up any amount that you want.

Rest assured, you can always get the full refund when you leave (but make sure to redeem it back at the counter again). Octopus Cards are really useful as you can use it for MTR, bus fares, paying at 7 eleven and more. Check out Octopus Card official web to get more information.

Next, you need to confirm and understand the route to your destination by MTR.

The transportation system in Hong Kong is undeniably convenient as the MTR goes to any place in Hong Kong and there's one thing that amazed me during my trip was that the interval of their MTR was only around 1 minute! It's like if the cabin was too full you won't have to worry as you always have plenty of time to wait for the next one.

For my case, I studied the route of the MTR by making sure which line I should take and where to take the interchange. It can be confusing for tourists at the station if you hadn't done research on the accurate route. MTR Hong Kong official website (Train Trip Planner) will show you the complete route as long as you insert your departure and destination.

Last but not least, there is a very useful and convenient website/app where you can purchase your entrance tickets online beforehand in a much cheaper price! I was surprised when I found out that the tickets were so much cheaper than the original price.

In addition, we didn't have to queue up at the counter to buy the tickets as we only neeedd to scan the barcode and the tickets would be printed by the automated machine. Everything is done in just a few minutes.

Besides that, they also offer meal vouchers for you to buy and redeem your meals at selected restaurants in the tourist destination. For instance, when I went to Disneyland, I had actually purchased 4 meal vouchers in total and we separated them into 2 for each lunch and dinner. The meals with the vouchers are also in cheaper price as compared to the original price. Isn't it awesome as you can save some money for your shopping!

So ... the website is called KLOOK. You can even download the app so that you don't have to print the tickets as you can directly scan the barcode that's on your phone. Super convenient! You can use this app if you're going for vacation in the future as they include a lot of countries. Check out more on their official website.

This is my itinerary that I literally spent 2 weeks to plan on ... it is kinda rough though. (MTR route usually starts and ends at YMT Station as there's where our hotel located.)

  • Prince Edward MTR > YMT Station
  • Check out Hotel
  • YMT > TST Station
  • Walk to Victoria Harbour and Avenue of Stars (10 mins)
  • TST > YMT Station
  • Hotel airport shuttle / taxi TO airport

Conclusion: Overall, what impressed me from this trip the most was their transportation system. Maybe it's due to the bad transportation system we have in Malaysia, I found theirs was really impressive. Their MRT can go almost everywhere in Hong Kong and the interval of each train trip during peak hours was just 1 minute! We didn't have to worry after missing a train at all because the next train will always arrive in one to three minutes. This totally does not happen in Malaysia as we normally had to wait for 30 minutes for one trip of train even during non-peak hours. Impressive, isn't it?

Cinemagraphs

Hi. Have you ever heard of CINEMAGRAPHS? You must be thinking about cinematography but no, they are actually two completely different things. Cinematography is the art of making motion pictures like videos, short films and movies whereas cinemagraph is a still photograph in which a minor and repeated movement occurs, forming a video clip. They are published as an animated GIF or in other video formats, and can give the illusion that the viewer is watching an animation.

Cinemagraph is assigned as the final project for my digital photography class. Cinemagraphs are made by recording a video, and, using image editing software, compositing the photographs or the video frames into a seamless loop of sequential frames. This is done such that motion in part of the subject between exposures is perceived as a repeating or continued motion, in contrast with the stillness of the rest of the image.

You might not be clear after all this explanation, still. So, let me show you some examples of cinemagraphs.

You see, there's only a part of the photo moving and the other part just stays still. This is how a cinemagraph looks like. Amazing isn't it?

I'm really looking forward to accomplishing this final project. Hopefully I'm gonna have fun and enjoy during the shooting and editing. And wish that I will get a good and interesting cinemagraph in the end!

***UPDATE: This is the outcome of my project - a cinemagraph for Pizza Hut.

TFiOS - The Fault in Our Stars

"The Fault in Our Stars - is poised to be the must-watch movie of the summer. The movie, based on John Green‘s wildly popular young-adult novel about two cancer-stricken teenagers who fall hopelessly in love with one another, is full of poignant quotes about true love (and loss) that have already resonated with millions of readers.

Star-crossed protagonists Hazel and Augustus exchange hundreds of thoughtful lines that can reduce even the most stoic reader to a puddle of tears. So with these heartwrenchingly beautiful quotes from The Fault in Our Stars, we offer fair warning: even if you haven’t read the book, these quotes might require you to reach for the tissues. But they’re worth it." - Ashleigh Schmitz

I fell in love the way you fall asleep; slowly, and then all at once.

Maria.

Don't get me wrong. This post isn't about a woman, but a song. haha. A song by the one and only Justin Bieber. What's so special about this song?

Alright. Apparently it is one of the songs from the Believe album. I didn't know what this song  is written for until one day I found out that the girl who sued JB for fathering her child was named Maria Yeater. *lightbulb* Then, I started to listen to the lyrics very carefully and it proved that I was right. Since then, I fell in love with this song. And somehow I got all pumped up whenever I heard this song. hah (this is weirddd!)

From the lyrics, I could see how mad and annoyed Justin was at the accusation. Fortunately everything is over now.

And here goes the lyrics...

She says she met me on the tour
She keeps knocking on my door, she won't leave me
Leave me alone
This girl, she wouldn't stop
Almost had to call the cops
She was scheming, ooh, she was wrong

Cause she wanted all my attention

And she was dragging my name through the dirt(no)
She was dying for my affection
And she keep making up and give it to 'em
I'm talking to you!

Mariaa!

Why you wanna do me like that?
That ain't my baby, that ain't my girl
Mariaa!
Why you wanna play me like that?
She ain't my baby, she ain't my girl
But she talking in, and she need a squeeze
But never this, all I know is she's not mine
That ain't my baby, that ain't my girl
But she falling out, what she talking about
Let me tell you now that girl, she's not mine
She ain't my baby, she ain't my girl

Now she's in the magazines, on TV, making a scene

Oh she's crazy, crazy in love
And she's all over the news, saying everything but the truth!
She's faking, faking it all

Why are you trying, trying to lie girl

When I never met you at all
Saying goodbye, but how could ya
You throw this, you throw this
Your foolness, seduces

Mariaa!

Why you wanna do me like that?
That ain't my baby, that ain't my girl
Mariaa!
Why you wanna play me like that?
She ain't my baby, she ain't my girl

But she talking in, and she need a squeeze

But never this, all I know she's not mine
That ain't my baby, that ain't my girl
But she falling out, what she talking about
Let me tell you now that girl she's not mine
She ain't my baby, she ain't my girl

That ain't my baby, that ain't my girl

She ain't my baby, she ain't my girl
She ain't my baby, she ain't my girl
She ain't my baby,
She's not my girl!

Safe and Sound

I love this song. I love Taylor Swift's voice - so angelic. This song is just like a lullaby. Listening to it before you sleep, you'll be able to sleep 'safe and sound'-ly. haha If you havent listened to it, why not give it a try? Not a bad choice. :)

P.S. This song is also one of the soundtracks in The Hunger Games.

I remember tears streaming down your face
When I said, I'll never let you go
When all those shadows almost killed your light
I remember you said, Don't leave me here alone
But all that's dead and gone and passed tonight

Just close your eyes
The sun is going down
You'll be alright
No one can hurt you now
Come morning light
You and I'll be safe and sound

Don't you dare look out your window darling
Everything's on fire
The war outside our door keeps raging on
Hold onto this lullaby
Even when the music's gone

Just close your eyes
The sun is going down
You'll be alright
No one can hurt you now
Come morning light
You and I'll be safe and sound

Just close your eyes
You'll be alright
Come morning light,
You and I'll be safe and sound..

Niall - Harry - Louis - Zayn - Liam

I wanna make some alteration to my previous post. haha. I was saying that I'm not obsessed over them. Ya, I'm still not THAT obsessed. But at least, some things have changed for now. :)

I've started to listen to their songs ... trying to listen to all of them. And, I've also watched many of their videos. The videos made me realize how awesome they are. Watching their auditions on the X-Factor changed my perspective, made me see them in a different way. Their British accent is one of the best things they have! You would go OMGOMG! when you heard it. :P 5 of them can sing really well and they are freaking hilarious! I love their sense of humour. <3 There're so many funny posts about them on tumblr. It's irresistible to reblog them! hah

Look at them, they are laughing+harmonizing! and look at Harry!!! hahahah

Wencai and I have made up a plan. We wanna go and meet them if they're coming to Malaysia!!! I hope they will ! We're so excited about it. YES. I hope it comes trueeeee. hehe

My favourite members in One Direction :

 Zayn Malik

and...

Harry Styles

And wencai's favourite are Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan. Yeah, they are cute! :3

P.S. I'm not a directioner. :P  Listen to Moments, it's a touching song.

One Direction.

Do you have any idea who these boys are? Most of you do, I reckon. If you don't, you should start google-ing about them. They are like the most renowned and talked-about group in the current musical industry! They are ONE DIRECTION (such a nice and cool name). Before I begin talking about them, I wanna make it clear that I am neither a fan of theirs (directioner) nor obsessed over them. Just that I think that their songs and voices are nice. and of course, you have the right to disagree with me. :) Besides, I'm posting this because I'm too bored that I couldn't think of anything better to do but came up with this idea.

Info from Wikipedia :

One Direction is a British-Irish boy band, consisting of members Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson. They finished third on the seventh series of The X Factor. Following The X Factor, the group signed a record contract with Sony Music subsidiary Syco Music.
One Direction's debut single "What Makes You Beautiful" was released on 11 September 2011. The single debuted on the UK Singles Chart at number one on 18 September 2011, shifting 153,965 copies, becoming the third fastest selling single of 2011. Their second single, "Gotta Be You", was released on 13 November 2011, which peaked at number three. Their debut album Up All Night was released on 21 November 2011. The album peaked at number two on the UK Albums Chart, selling 138,631 copies, and was the fastest-selling debut album on the UK Albums Chart of 2011. Up All Night was the sixteenth biggest selling album on the UK Albums Chart of 2011, with 468,000 copies sold.

In 2010, all five members applied as solo candidates for the The X Factor, but failed to qualify for the "Boys" category. After suggestion by guest judge Nicole Scherzinger, the five were put into a band, thus qualifying for the "Groups" category. After the elimination of F.Y.D., Diva Fever and Belle Amie within four weeks, they were Simon Cowell's last act in the competition. One Direction finished third behind runner-up Rebecca Ferguson and winner Matt Cardle.

As you can see, there are 5 members in this group. It's also been mentioned above. Let me introduce them one by one...

NIALL HORAN.

Date of birth : 13 September 1993 (age 18)
From :  Mullingar, County Westmeath, Ireland.

Horan auditioned with "So Sick" and received mixed comments from judges present at his audition, with Louis Walsh in his favor. While two other judges having doubts on whether he was ready to progress in the competition. With three votes out of four he was sent to bootcamp. At bootcamp, he sang "Champagne Supernova" before being rejected and put into One Direction. Horan also plays the guitar.

ZAYN MALIK.

Date of birth : 12 January 1993 (age 19)
From : West Lane Baildon, Bradford, UK.

Malik is of Pakistani descent. His audition was initially not broadcast, but was shown after the series ended on companion show The Xtra Factor. Malik was noted for becoming nervous in bootcamp, and when he was told he had to dance, he decided to remain backstage, effectively running the risk of elimination. Cowell noticed Malik missing from the dance routine and went backstage and convinced him to return. Malik dated fellow X Factor contestant, Rebecca Ferguson, which caused controversy because of the six year age difference. The relationship ended after 4 months together.

LIAM PAYNE.

Date of birth : 29 August 1993 (age 18)
From :  Wolverhampton, West Midlands, UK.

Payne had auditioned in 2008 to The X Factor's fifth series when he was 14 and reached judges' houses, but Cowell thought he was not ready for the competition and asked him to come back in two years. This time Payne auditioned singing "Cry Me a River" and received a standing ovation from the audience and Simon Cowell.

HARRY STYLES.

Date of birth : 1 February 1994 (age 17)
From : Holmes Chapel, Cheshire, UK.

Styles was the lead singer for the band White Eskimo with band members lead guitarist Haydn Morris, bass guitarist Nick Clough and drummer Will Sweeny. Styles auditioned with "Isn't She Lovely" and received positive comments from two of the three judges present at his audition, with Louis Walsh having doubts on whether he was ready to progress in the competition. At bootcamp, he sang "Stop Crying Your Heart Out" before being rejected and put into One Direction.

LOUIS TOMLINSON.

Date of birth :  24 December 1991 (age 20)
From :  Doncaster, South Yorkshire, UK.

Tomlinson auditioned with "Hey There Delilah", with three votes out of three judges present at his audition he was sent to bootcamp. At bootcamp, he sang "Make You Feel My Love" before being rejected and put into One Direction.

Honestly, I first knew about them from Tumblr in year 2011. There were lotsa photos of theirs with 1000+ notes mostly. I started to notice them since then. At first, I knew that they were in a group named One Direction (or 1D). I was wondering how come they're so famous? What have they done to gain the fame? Then until now, I know they are a boy band from British. Wow! british accent! {!!!} And if you asked me, among the 5 of them, who I like the most (or you can say who I have been observing the most) ... yes, the answer would be Zayn Malik. I doubt that you need any further explanations. haha

I'm currently watching their latest music video - One Thing. A nice song it is. :)

Movie Review

Watched this movie like two weeks ago. I guess everyone knows what movie this is. Yeah, Johnny English Reborn. Obviously. And everyone must have known that, this movie is freaking funny. No any other words can describe it better. Rowan Atkinson is undeniably a funny man, a gifted comedian. Seeing him reminds everyone of 'Mr. Bean'. Am I right? LOL. And I cant believe that he is actually a professor in reality. Can you believe that? haha. He has the ability to make all of the people laugh their asses off without saying any words. His actions, his jokes and everything he does is extraordinary. You couldn't find anybody like him in this world.

I watched him acting as Mr. Bean ever since I started watching tv. But I don't really remember how old I was. And I will never forget that I did dream about him. It was a nightmare to me! haha. Now there's a cartoon version of 'Mr. Bean' but no doubt the original one is still better. I can just watch every episodes of it over and over again and they still keep me laughing! My sis bought a couple of dvd's of this show. She loves watching it too. It is one of our unforgettable childhood memories. :)

Alright, back to this movie. I watched Johnny English one week later after watching this movie. He looked younger in that movie. However, the story line was quite ridiculous. So was this movie. The story line of this reborn's version was satisfactory. :) But I must be honest that when I watched this movie in the cinema, I laughed until I rolled my body up on the seat! Yeah, there was a stranger beside me. But who cares, most of them did that too .. I guess. And I think the theater was dark enough. :P I laughed hardest at the CHAIR part and the SHOOSHAN part. HAHAHA. You would get me if you had watched it. The one who came up with that idea was brilliant!

This movie could really make you laugh all your stress out! It's definitely one of my favourites so far. I love comedy and horror movie btw. heehee.

That's all. Somehow I just suddenly wanted to share my review about this movie. Thanks for spending your time to read it! Toodles.
